A Collection of Videos About Life Experience with the Cochlear Implant
Born as a hearing child in a world filled with music, Summer lost her hearing due to Spinal Meningitis at the age of three. Written by Summer Crider, this DVD is about a choice that placed her at the crossroads of two worlds. Four video segments trace Summer’s use of hearing aids, tactile aides, speech therapy, auditory training, and the families’ final decision for a cochlear implant at age 6. The video documents Summer’s personal and educational experiences, as well as challenges she faced in both the hearing and deaf world. This is an inspiring story of a young girl who melded two worlds into her own, the sound and soundless, showing the roles that love, support, and technology played in making her dreams come true. Subtitles are presented throughout the DVD for accessibility purposes. (DVD, 64 mins, dialogues in ASL and English).
