Cochlear Implant Auditory Training Guide with CDs
For Parents and Professionals Working with Children 5 and Up
Often, when a child is a candidate for a cochlear implant, it means that he has not been successful with more traditional amplification. An unsuccessful trial with amplification means slow progress and typically a lot of experience with communicative failure. When a child receives a cochlear implant, they typically need care for guidance to achieve successful listening experiences.
This program provides challenging and exciting language activities for school aged children with cochlear implants. The CDs included allow therapists to print activities in color. There are high and medium level listening tasks as well as low level activities.
This packaged set comes complete with Guidebook, two print CDs, and a boxed game kit. The Guidebook presents an easy to follow hierarchy of skills that move the student toward auditory recognition of words. The CDs include a placement test, lesson plan forms, acoustic screens, and hundreds of discrimination cards with activities for single word, multiple element and broader language listening at all levels. Wordplay game (barrier) boards provide a concrete visual representation of the educational progress the listener makes as he practices the activities. Teachers follow the educational plan according to developmental levels identified in the placement test. A gridfinder chart in the teaching plan allows teachers to follow the appropriate developmental hierarchy of skills with games and activities at each level.
Teachers in mainstream education will find this program useful in developing listening skills that build auditory discrimination which leads to proficiency in phonics and grammatically appropriate English. (Guidebook: 77 pgs, spiral bound, 8-1/2” x 11”)
